Valea Muta / The Silent Valley

The Challenge
To costume a grounded, contemporary Romanian thriller where the visual language had to feel completely real and unadorned. With two teenage boys at the center of a story tangled between a hidden relationship and a witnessed murder, the costumes needed to reflect authenticity and vulnerability rather than character archetype, while also clearly distinguishing the world of the teenagers from the harder, more institutional world of law enforcement closing in around them.
The Approach
The approach was rooted in restraint and realism. The boys were dressed to disappear into their environment: ordinary, age-appropriate clothes that carry the weight of their situation without ever announcing it. The adult world, particularly the investigators and those connected to organized crime, was given a more defined, layered look to signal authority and threat. Set against the forests and rural landscapes near Braศov, every costume choice leaned into texture and practicality, letting the tension come from the story rather than the wardrobe. Nothing here was meant to stand out, and that was exactly the point.
