A Christmas for Princess

The Challenge

To dress a modern fairy tale spanning two distinct worlds: the everyday warmth of an American woman navigating grief and financial struggle, and the formal grandeur of a European royal castle at Christmas. The costumes needed to tell the story of a fish-out-of-water romance, visually tracking Jules’s transformation from ordinary outsider to someone who truly belongs, while defining the hierarchy, personality, and emotional arc of each character within the festive, magical atmosphere the story demanded.

The Approach

Each character’s wardrobe was built as a visual language. Jules’s early looks were kept deliberately practical and unpretentious, relatable and slightly out of place against the castle’s opulence, making her eventual ballgown transformation feel genuinely earned. The royal household was dressed with restrained formality, tailored silhouettes and rich fabrics conveying old-world authority, while the castle staff maintained a quiet, structured propriety throughout. Filmed at Peleศ™ Castle in Romania, every costume had to hold its own against a breathtaking architectural backdrop, balancing fairy-tale fantasy with enough contemporary sensibility to keep the story emotionally real.
