A Christmas Prince

The Brief

A modern fairy tale for Netflix, set in the fictional royal kingdom of Aldovia and filmed at Peleș Castle in Romania. The central costume challenge was the contrast between Amber, a street-smart New York journalist who stumbles into palace life, and the royal world she finds herself navigating. Every character needed a clear visual identity, from the warmth of the prince to the severity of the queen mother, and the whole film had to feel festive, sumptuous, and effortlessly escapist.

The Execution

Amber’s wardrobe was deliberately kept grounded and contemporary, her casual practicality a constant visual reminder of the world she comes from. The royals and palace staff were dressed with formality and structure, their clothes quietly signalling hierarchy and tradition. The Christmas Eve ball was the costume centrepiece: Amber’s gown designed as a genuine transformation moment, the kind audiences come to these films for. Filmed against one of Romania’s most spectacular castle backdrops, the costumes had to hold their own in richly decorated, ornate interiors while never competing with them, keeping the focus where it belongs: on the story.
